Most good negotiators will suggest that you find common ground with the other party. This maybe a wise tactic and generally can work well. Yet, if you find this tactic being used on you, you might wish to have a strategy to make it very tough for the other person to find common ground.

What Is Proxemics?

The study of the communicative aspects of personal space and territory is called proxemics. Everyone is surrounded by an invisible zone of psychological comfort that follows us everywhere we travel. This protective bubble acts as a buffer zone against unwanted touching and attacks. Our comfort zone varies depending on who we are talking to and the situation that we are in. The amount of space that we use while interacting with others can play a significant factor in the type of interaction we have with that person.

There was a time in my life when I sold life insurance. Well, to be frank, I tried to sell life insurance. With little success.

And while I didn’t sell any insurance, I did learn a thing or two, and I’d like to explore one of them with you today – time horizons.

A management opportunity occurs when two or more people have a conflict . Whether it is a barroom brawl or settling a dispute those who take the initiative will typically prevail. Unlike a fight where blows are thrown, in a negotiation the combatants typically must feign civility and control. In the absence of absolute power, initiative and leadership are among the most reliable tactics used to win.

Have you already fallen in love before buying that house? It doesn’t favor your position in the negotiation.

Negotiating is sometimes (by adherents of economic game theory) compared with playing poker.
When playing poker you do not show your cards. You look at your cards, and you follow the eyes of your opponents. Can you notice something?

What is data? How does it impact a negotiation. How do you gather it? Data is the meat of preparation. Negotiators should take the time to fully prepare. If they do this, often as not they will be better prepared than the other person. As a result, they will likely control the conversation and its outcome.

What exactly are we trying to accomplish by proving to others that we’re right? We might win the argument but ultimately lose the relationship. Perhaps a better, deeper-rooted question is this: Why do we lose sight of success, of our big objective, when we feel challenged or intimidated?

Mention barter and many people think it was something those ancients did by
swapping things for food and vice versa when money wasn’t around. Its time to wake up dude! You have been there, done that. You have bartered as kids. Remember those super hero comics you got for the baseball cards your pal didn’t have? Well, the news is, barter as a form of business is alive and kicking, and making fast inroads into modern trade.
