Will it play in Peoria? This well-known gauge has been the long-standing median for determining entrepreneurial success since vaudevillian days when performers judged their potential for future success by the initial responses received by the public in Peoria.

What is it about Peoria, Illinois that causes it to remain such a well-branded name in the minds of entrepreneurs today?

What would it be worth to you to receive a steady stream of new customers with little or no effort on your part? Would you be willing to pay 10% of the revenue they generate? 20%? 50%? Or do you believe that you can’t afford to pay anything?

Recently, I attended a seminar on Internet business presented by Tim Knox (author and entrepreneur) and Jim Cockrum (author of The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay). During the seminar, Jim Cockrum said, “learning about the Internet is like drinking from the fire hose”. I was taken back with such an accurate saying since I have been researching the Internet for a couple of years and that is exactly what happened to me.

So you’ve seen all of those appealing listings on eBay for websites that promise a living from doing almost nothing. Now I’ve seen countless people buy these things and I dont know why. In real life, if a person came up to you and promised everything like that you would naturally figure it to be a scam and not pay attention to it. So why don’t people do the same on ebay?
It’s because these auctioners are crafty, they often times provide you with tables of potential sales and usually state things like “If you just make 5 sales a day, you’ll earn $3900 a month!”. This is what ropes most people in (and by most I mean inexperienced or first timers). Little do they know that getting 5 sales a day is a feat.

It is widely held that one of the most important ingredients in small business success is perseverance. Deciding on a strategy and sticking with it. I would agree but you need to be clear that the strategy is in alignment with your passion in business and your natural action and communication styles. It’s also helpful to have effective strategies to follow through on what you set as your priorities, goals, plans, calls to action… and other components of your daily business activities. These principals will give you ideas to be effective when working on your business; so you can be persistent, passionate and productive in your small business.

To be a successful entrepreneur you are going to have to learn to deal with failure. There is no way around it. Thomas Edison tried over ten thousand different experiments before he finally demonstrated the first incandescent light bulb on October 21, 1879. Bill Gates’ first company, Traf-O-Data, was a failure. Michael Jordan was once quoted as saying: “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot; And missed. I’ve failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

I just arrived back from the best seminar I have ever
attended in the last 10-years.

There were more “Underground” millionaires at Yanik Silver’s
“Underground” seminar than I’ve ever had access to at one
time ever!

Last week I got a call from a business owner who had decided to sell his business. He and his partners were beginning the beauty contest phase of selecting a firm to represent them in the sale. His partners had begun discussions with a merger and acquisition advisory firm. He had followed up with this firm prior to calling us and had questioned them on several issues. He shared his findings with me and asked my opinion. Generally I subscribe to my old IBM training and will not disparage a competitor, however, some of the answers were alarming to me so I elected not to withhold my opinions.

Job growth–or lack of it–and the levels of
unemployment continue to confuse obtuse
government analysts and the Wall Street crowd.

Why? They are ignoring the dramatic effect of
rapidly-increasing self-employment.

Recently, the weekly number of unemployed declined,
but the number of newly-created jobs was very
small. How could that happen when there were not
enough new jobs created that week?
